Vacations & Summer & Winter In Maine
Good morning friends! We are writing to you today about our school vacations and about the weather in Maine, USA.
Spring And Summer In Auburn
Spring months are March, April, and May and the average temperature is about 60F. Summer months are June, July, and August and the average temperature is 80F. During the spring people like to go fishing, mudding, hiking, and flying kites. During the summer, people here go swimming, biking, and camping.
This is a lighthouse on the coast of Maine by the ocean. It warns ships that there is land.
In the summers we have heavy rains from time to time and large thunder and lightening storms. Sometimes the coast floods. It can get very hot here during the summer. Temperatures reach about 90F. Sometimes there are earthquakes and hurricanes.
Students have two spring breaks during the school year. One break is in February for 1 week and the other break is in April for 1 week. Many kids stay home and sleep, watch TV, go to the movies, play video games, play sports, or visit with their friends and have sleepovers. Some families travel to see things outside of Maine in the United States. A lot of families go to Florida because it is warm and sunny and they go to amusement parks like Disneyland.
Students have a summer vacation from school that lasts 3 months. Most people go to the beach or do something that involves staying cool. Americans celebrate the Fourth of July to remember America’s fight for independence from Great Britain. There are fire works and family cookouts. During the summer some students go to summer school if they did not do well during the school year. Other kids go to summer camps for sports or clubs.

On The Fourth of July everyone dresses in red, white and blue and there are many flags outside of homes.
Hanging out with friends swimming and hiking is what a lot of us do.
Everything in summer is very green in Maine.
Fall & Winter
Fall in Maine starts in late August and goes until November. The temperature starts to get a bit cooler at 50F-63F. Fall is the time for football season to begin. Our high school football teams have games on Friday and Saturday nights. Apple picking in Maine is usually common during the fall. People in Maine like to ski in the winter. We have a ski team at our school.

In the winter in Maine,the weather gets very cold and snowy. Due to the cold, almost all Maine inhabitants bundle up with clothing. Due to the bitterness of the air our clothing gets thicker, fluffier, and warmer. The electricity and gas bills will rise as people begin starting up furnaces and heaters in their homes. People heat their homes with electric heat, oil and wood stoves.
In Maine we get really bad snow storms in the winter. A few weeks ago we had a really bad ice storm and a lot of people lost power. Right now there is a ton of ice on the ground.
Yesterday we had a snow day because it snowed almost 6 inches. The last couple of days have been really cold with temperatures falling to about -15F. All schools cancel at the same time. If elementary school cancels, so does middle school and high school.
During winter students have Thanksgiving Break for 4 days.
Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate as a day of giving thanks for the harvests of the year. Families eat Turkey, potatoes, stuffing, onions, green beans, squash and pumpkin pie. Students here also have Christmas vacation in December for two weeks. This is to celebrate the Christian holiday of Christmas and New Years which is on January 1st. Some of our students are Jewish and celebrate Hanukkah which is the Festival of Lights. Our Muslim students celebrate the month of Ramadan by fasting and offering salat (prayers) and reciting the Quran.
