Environment in Zarechny Kazakhstan

We’ve promised you to tell about our environmental problems. We all know about global warming, pollution and greenhouse effect but there are smaller issues, which cause harm to our society.
First of all you should know that Zarechny is a suburb situated next to the city of Kostanay, on the bank of the Tobol. Our countryside is a beautiful place with rich nature. Unfortunately, it must be protected from ourselves as people contaminate and damage it.
For example, there is a reserve park near our village with a fresh water lake called Kamennoe and many springs. They are very popular that even people from the city come to take some pure water. Moreover, it is a convenient place for leisure and having picnics. But the biggest disadvantage is much rubbish left after them. Though it’s considered to be a reserve, in fact, it is not controlled and served by local authorities. As a result, many rare and unique flora and fauna are destroyed. The springs are clogged so the lake is becoming shallower. The good news is there are many careful people who organize and participate in clean-up days to collect rubbish every spring. Of course, it is not enough to save nature despite people are aware of this issue. We applied to our local authorities to organize constant protection and set up fixed fines for offenders. We hope they will take measures and improve ecological situation in our community.
As for the situation in our village, we also have some problems such as littering, dumps and homeless dogs. Pollution issues exist because there are no enough bins and dumpsters. Therefore, some people can throw away garbage to the street. To struggle with pollution people organize clean-up days called ‘subbotnics’ where all participators pick up litter. Subbotnic is regular and voluntary event in autumn and spring. However, it’s not enough to eliminate big dumps. Fortunately, there is only a recycling factory of plastic things 120 km far off Kostanay, but the problem stays unsolved. It is connected with big quantity of trash and difficulties with transportation.The situation concerning with stray dogs is better. In spite of their high amount, there are responsible people, who catch dogs and bring them to shelters.
We proud of our clean schoolyard. It is always in good condition as students do not litter here and help to keep cleanness,plant and look after trees, flowers and bushes.
